Tyler Perry’s House of Payne | How Will Calvin React When He Finds Out That Ella Doesn’t Like Laura?

Alright, so it seems that either tonight or in the next episode or two, Calvin is finally going to find out that his mom doesn’t like his fiancée, Laura.

Based on one of the many promotional photos we’ve seen, Calvin is looking seriously stern and upset toward Laura, while Elaine is in the background with a stunned expression like, “Wait, what?” In another video I made, I originally titled it “Calvin Breaks Up With Laura in Front of Her Mom,” but later changed it to “Calvin Confronts Laura for Being Disrespectful to Miranda and Ella.”

I’m starting to think that even if Calvin finds out Ella doesn’t like Laura, that revelation will be completely overshadowed by a much bigger issue: Laura might have lied to Calvin about what actually happened at his parents’ house.

She painted herself as the victim — the poor fiancée being ganged up on and practically thrown out by the family. But let’s be honest: she was the one who incited the drama. She walked in already feeling salty about not being invited to another family event. When Miranda tried to diffuse the situation by saying, “It’s not even like that. You can stay,” Laura wasn’t having it. Instead, she lashed out, saying she was about to be married to Calvin, and demanded Miranda leave — demanding respect while giving none.

That moment was the spark that lit the fuse. If Calvin finds out the truth — that Laura twisted the story, disrespected the mother of one of his children, and disrespected his mother in her own home — it’s going to be a bad look for her.

Let’s not forget that Laura disrespected Miranda twice in the same episode — the finale from a couple weeks ago. When Miranda burst into the condo to stop Laura from feeding Calvin more lies, Laura went full meltdown mode: “Get your son and go. Get out. Get out!” She didn’t just snap at Miranda — she upset Christian too. All of that put together… it’s not looking good for Laura.

Yes, she’s made Calvin reevaluate himself and told him to put in the work with his family. But she didn’t set any boundaries with Miranda and made it seem like everything was falling back on her. Now? That victim card has expired.

Honestly, this reminds me of the whole Halle Bailey and DDG situation — he painted one narrative, then she came with receipts and a restraining order. It’s kind of like that — minus the abuse — but Laura’s about to be exposed.

And the synopsis hints that Calvin will have to choose between saving his marriage (well, they’re not married yet!) or his relationship with his mom. That sounds like Laura might get the boot.

But here’s my issue. If Ella’s dislike of Laura gets completely overshadowed by Laura’s lies, we might miss out on a huge character plot point. Why doesn’t Ella like Laura? Is it because she prefers Miranda? Or is there something deeper?

It would be such lazy writing if they just railroad Laura, make her irredeemable, and push her aside for a Miranda-Calvin reunion — without giving us insight into Ella’s reasons.

We need that backstory. Has Ella been avoiding Laura, canceling plans, dodging every opportunity to connect? If so, Calvin deserves to call her out too — “Mom, you say you don’t like her, but did you ever give her a chance?”

Give us those scenes. Don’t gloss over them. If they do, I’m docking points off the episode review. Period.

But we’ll see what happens. Hopefully tonight. I’ll be sure to watch the episode and get that review out as soon as possible — I’m taking a short break from eBay anyway. After selling over 700 cards and completing 600+ orders, yeah, I needed a breather.

If they drop any clips today, I’ll cover those too. Thanks for tuning in — and as always, I’ll catch you in the next one!
