Tyler Perry’s House of Payne | Season 13 Episode 20 Review: The Incomparable Ella
…Ella is surprised to hear that she’s being considered as the next queen. Now this part of the episode was just as rich as the Jasmine subplot—maybe even more so for longtime fans who love Ella’s character.
The social club dynamic was on point. There’s this energy among the group that’s both playful and competitive, with everyone looking at Ella like she’s the obvious successor, even if she’s too modest to admit it. Regina, however, is not so thrilled about the idea. She’s been salty since the church drama started, and now she’s gunning for Ella’s crown—figuratively and literally.
What made this part shine was Ella’s internal conflict. She’s been through so much this season—ostracized by her church community, feeling adrift spiritually—and now, just as she’s rebuilding herself, she’s offered a position of influence and recognition. But it’s not just about the title; it’s about who she wants to be. Can she lead with grace while still standing firm in her beliefs, even when others, like Regina, continue to throw shade?
Curtis, of course, has his own thoughts—mostly hilarious ones. He treats the social club like it’s a secret society of spies or something, and his commentary during their backyard gathering had me cracking up. But deep down, you can tell he’s proud of Ella and wants her to take the position.
In the end, Ella does step up—but not before calling out Regina’s bitterness and setting the record straight in a classic Ella monologue that mixes kindness, strength, and just a hint of sass. It’s like: “I’m not here to take a title, I’m here to serve. But if the crown fits…”
So overall, episode 20 really did hit all the right notes—strong character development, callbacks to earlier plot points, moral lessons without being preachy, and just enough drama to keep you wanting more. The Jasmine story had weight, and the Ella plot gave longtime viewers that emotional payoff they’ve been waiting for.
Honestly, a 10/10 is fair. And if this pacing keeps up for the last two episodes of the season, plus a seamless move into season 14 without hiatus? Yep, House of Payne is doing what needs to be done.
You gonna check out 21 and 22 when they drop next week? We can recap those too if you want.
