Tyler Perry’s Sistas | BET Renews The Series & Season 9 Will Begin Airing On July 16th
Okay, SISTAS fans!
I woke up this morning to about 30 messages from people saying, “Jeremy, you gotta check this out!” Well, first of all, congratulations to SISTAS for officially being renewed by BET for Season 9!
Now, on top of that, we got even more news—the show already has a return date, despite not being filmed yet. Production begins on March 24th, and the return date is set for July 16th.
Is This Too Soon?
Many fans messaged me, linking to the Deadline article and sharing the official SISTAS Instagram post. The big question everyone had was: “Jeremy, what do you think? Is this too soon?”
I have two thoughts on this.
First, I’m happy that we’re getting a four-month hiatus. Truth be told, I wouldn’t have minded if it were a bit longer, but I’m glad we’ll have time to process the events of Seasons 7 and 8 before jumping into the next one.
However, I have to give this the side-eye. If Season 9 had already been filmed, I feel like they would’ve pulled something like, “SISTAS returns April 16th!”—barely giving us a break at all. So, in that sense, I do think the hiatus could have been even longer.
Will the Return Date Stick?
I previously theorized that the show wouldn’t return until late summer—maybe even August. I was close! But keep in mind, July 16th is just an announced date. We’ve seen before how these dates can change. Sometimes they push it back, sometimes they move it forward, depending on external factors like cancellations or a need to boost ratings.
That being said, at least we’re not getting one of those absurdly short hiatuses where the show returns in just two weeks or a month. Four months is solid!
Tonight’s Season Finale: What to Expect
Tonight is a big night, but whether or not it will be a good one remains to be seen. According to Deadline, here’s what’s going down:
- The SISTAS experience newfound money and success—likely referencing Andy’s promotion and Danni’s $775,000 legal windfall.
- Andy must decide whether to make things work with Robin before he possibly walks out of her life forever.
- Sabrina finally gets closure from an old lover—probably referring to Calvin.
- Danni’s lawsuit outcome threatens her future with Tony.
- Karen and Fatima grow closer than ever.
- Gary’s investigation reaches a shocking conclusion.
Breaking It Down
Sabrina & Calvin: I don’t see why closure is needed. Calvin left for a valid reason, and Sabrina had been dating Bayo for months. This just feels repetitive.
Danni & Tony: How exactly does this lawsuit threaten their future? These two don’t need to reconcile. They just need to be cordial at work and move on.
Karen & Fatima: This probably has to do with Karen going into labor, possibly at home, with Zac not around.
Gary’s Investigation: If this is about the stabbing, I don’t even care anymore. This has been dragged out way too long.
Looking Ahead to Season 9
Doing the math—if Season 9 starts on July 16th and follows the usual 22-episode format, the midseason finale should be on September 24th. Interestingly, filming starts on March 24th, and the midseason finale lands on September 24th—coincidence?
So, are you excited about Season 9? Do you think the break is too long, too short, or just right? Or do you not care anymore? Let me know in the comments, and don’t forget to like and subscribe!
