Tyler Perry’s Sistas | Could A Spinoff Focusing On The Girls Meeting In College Be In The Works?

Should the Next Sistas Spin-Off Be Set in College? Fans Say Yes.

Ever since Divorce Sisters was announced, the buzz hasn’t stopped. But along with the excitement, there’s been a wave of disappointment from longtime fans of Sistas. Why? Because many had hoped the next spin-off would take a different direction—a prequel that dives into the college years of our favorite women.

And honestly? That idea has real potential.

Imagine this: an episode in Season 9 or 10 where the girls—Andi, Sabrina, Danni, and Karen—sit together reminiscing about the “good old days.” Maybe over wine, in a classic sister circle moment, they reflect on how they met back in college. That scene could easily serve as a backdoor pilot, a two-parter perhaps, launching a new series if fans respond positively.

A college-set spin-off wouldn’t just be fan service—it could add real depth. We could finally see what shaped these women into who they are today. What were their early dating choices like? Did those relationships plant the seeds for their adult love lives? And what about their families? Seeing parents visit campus or glimpses into their home lives would give the characters even more texture.

There’s also a business side to this idea. If Sistas is truly nearing the end of its run, a college prequel could keep the IP alive. Think of it as a clever move to send fans back to stream the original on BET+, Amazon, or wherever it’s available—keeping interest (and revenue) flowing long after the finale.

In a way, this approach mirrors how Marvel Studios treated some of its less beloved films. Remember Thor: The Dark World? Not many fans called it their favorite. But once Avengers: Endgame referenced it, people went back to watch. Same with WandaVision, which made Age of Ultron suddenly relevant again. The point is: smart callbacks can revitalize older content.

A college spin-off could be the Sistas equivalent of A Different World—a show rooted in the lives of young Black women figuring out who they are in a complex world. And no, it doesn’t have to include Fatima (sorry, fans). The focus would be on the original four: Andi, Sabrina, Danni, and Karen. With strong casting and talented young actors, it could be both nostalgic and fresh.

Remember the New Edition biopic? That cast nailed every age group of the band. A college-era Sistas prequel could follow that same blueprint—portraying the early struggles, friendships, and messy dating that shaped these women.

So while we may be getting Divorce Sisters now—and it’s clearly part of the Sistas universe—why not aim even higher for the future? Give us that college series. Make it smart, funny, heartfelt, and full of that signature Tyler Perry drama.

There’s still so much to explore in this world.
