Tyler Perry’s Sistas | Mystery Solved: Jasmine Was The Person Who Stabbed Gary
The mystery of who stabbed Gary has finally been resolved—Jasmine was the culprit. Nana boo, I was right!
Jokes aside, while it was nice to finally have the reveal, I can’t shake the feeling of emptiness. It just wasn’t a satisfying payoff. And no, I’m not even talking about Jasmine getting shot. That’s another issue entirely. My disappointment comes from how the reveal was handled. It was supposed to be shocking or surprising, yet it lacked impact.
One of my biggest frustrations is the murder suspect board. Jeremy was heavily implied as a suspect through facial expressions and Zach’s journey in the finale. In Episode 20, Zach seemed to conclude that Jasmine was the stabber, but Fatima stopped him from saying it out loud. Then, when he went to her workplace, the topic wasn’t even brought up. Later, in the finale, Zach and Fatima analyzed the board and concluded that the attacker was someone “not in plain sight.” Fatima showed something on her phone to Zach—but we, the audience, never got to see it. And now? Jasmine just admitted to stabbing Gary, and that’s it.
The murder suspect board should have been a crucial element in the storyline. Imagine how much more engaging it would have been if the season had methodically explored different suspects. Ideally, they should have dedicated an entire episode to the night of the stabbing, or at the very least, sprinkled key flashbacks throughout the season. Early on, they set this up well, with interrogations and the girls denying involvement in Episode 3. But as the season progressed, the focus shifted, making us question if Hayden or Tamara was responsible instead. Tamara even laughed at the hospital, further muddying the waters. And then there was Penelope, found covered in blood—yet these loose ends remained unanswered.
Even though we got an answer, we didn’t get a satisfying story. The season would have been far more compelling if each episode focused on different suspects, leading up to the grand reveal. For instance, if an episode explored Tamara’s involvement, we could have followed her to the hospital, watching her react to Gary’s amnesia. Then, in another episode, when she admitted to going to the wedding venue to expose Gary’s affair, we could have seen a flashback of her actually being there.
The season did use flashbacks, but not the right ones. They should have recreated key moments from the wedding venue and strategically placed them throughout the season. This would have built suspense and kept the mystery alive. Instead, they stretched 19 episodes across only a few days in the storyline, making the pacing painfully slow.
And let’s talk about the wedding night. By my count, at least 13 characters were at the venue: Jasmine (who stabbed Gary), Jordan (fighting for Andy), Penelope (found covered in blood), Danny, Karen, and Sabrina (there for support), Hayden (who brought but later dropped the knife), Tamara (trying to expose Gary), Andy (the bride-to-be), Hudson (Gary’s best man and secret schemer), and of course, Zach and Fatima. Despite all these people being there, we barely got any meaningful flashbacks! Why didn’t we see a flashback of Jasmine actually stabbing Gary? It was a pivotal moment, yet we only heard about it after the fact.
Another odd choice was Gary’s flashbacks. Why was he reminiscing about Andy when he should have been piecing together what happened with Jasmine? It made no sense! And then there’s the lingering mystery of how Jasmine got out of jail. I still believe Marie orchestrated her release as payback for Gary. Marie even told Andy in the Season 7 finale, “Don’t worry, I’ll handle it.” But we never got confirmation! Instead, when Andy confronted Jasmine about being in jail, Jasmine just smugly replied, “You’re wrong.” And that was it! No explanation. No closure. Just another unanswered question.
In the end, the writers fumbled—badly. They had the ingredients for an incredible mystery but failed to execute it properly. They relied too much on telling rather than showing, which made the reveal feel hollow. Yes, we now know Jasmine was the stabber, but was it satisfying? Not at all.
That’s my take on it. What do you all think? Like and subscribe, and I’ll catch you in the next video!
