Tyler Perry's Zatima & Sistas

Tyler Perry’s Sistas | Season 8 Episode 21 Review: London Bridges

Okay, SISTERS fans! Hope everybody’s doing well. We’re here to talk about the penultimate episode of Season 8, Episode 21: London Bridges.

Also, I read and responded to almost every single comment on my live stream from Wednesday night. I think around yesterday afternoon, a lot of people were telling me, “Whatever you did, this was the clearest live stream you’ve done in months!” And all I did was simply change browsers. Microsoft Edge hasn’t been functioning right for the past couple of weeks—every time I try to go live, it just says “Upcoming” or freezes. So I switched to Firefox, and it worked!

Funny enough, the reason I switched to Microsoft Edge months ago was because Firefox’s live streaming sucked. But if Firefox works, that’s what I’m going to use. However, next Tuesday or Wednesday, I will do a test live stream just to make sure everything is set because next week is the finale, and I want to be able to hop right on YouTube live stream as soon as the episode ends.

Matter of fact, I might set up my equipment around 9:55 PM—maybe during the last commercial break before the final few scenes. That way, as soon as the episode fades to black (since there won’t be a “Next on SISTERS” preview because the season is over), I can jump right on the live stream.

Now, onto the review!

Don’t worry, I’ll get there. But first, I was reading some comments and messages from my post yesterday because, good grief, the flack I’ve been getting! But I appreciate the positive messages from people telling me not to let it get to me, to keep doing me, and that the real ones will stick around.

Even though some of my commentary may seem negative, it’s crazy—I’m not trying to jump on the negativity bandwagon, but I can’t turn a hunk of crap into a gold nugget. I try to highlight the best parts of the show, but when it’s giving me nothing to work with, what do you expect me to say?

It’s okay for everybody else to criticize the show and say it sucks, but when I do it, it’s suddenly a problem? Then I posted a clip (which I’ll post here if you haven’t seen it) from a Six Tri8 Press Run podcast where Tyler Perry himself talks about his thoughts on the show. He doesn’t say SISTERS directly, but he talks about how a number of his shows now have writers’ rooms. He admits that he struggles to watch the episodes because he feels like these writers don’t capture the voice he originally molded these shows into when he started out.

I’ll let you listen to it, and then I’ll come back.

[Tyler Perry’s Podcast Segment Summary]

The interviewer asks if the transition to other writers has successfully captured his voice. Perry responds that, unfortunately, it hasn’t. He explains that he has hired a bunch of writers for about 8 or 9 of his 11 shows on air. However, it has been difficult for him to watch them because when he handed over the shows, there were already 100+ episodes.

As a writer, he would expect that new writers would watch all past episodes to learn the tone and structure of the show. However, he feels like they’ve gone in completely different directions, straying from the original voice of the series.

Because of this, Perry now steps into the writers’ rooms to provide more guidance, rather than assuming that a writer will automatically pick up on his style just by watching a few episodes. He hopes that in upcoming seasons, the writers will better understand the structure and style of his past work.

He acknowledges that he has to let go and accept that some things won’t be up to his standards. However, if the ratings take a dip, then it’s time to step in and course-correct. He says that he allowed the writers to do their thing, observed how the ratings responded, and then had conversations about how to get the shows back on track.

[Back to the Review]

So, as you can see, without naming SISTERS directly, Perry is making a blanket statement about all his shows. But let’s be real—we know he’s talking about SISTERS.

Especially when the interviewer says, “Well, as long as the show’s doing well, right?” and Perry responds, “Yeah, but if the ratings drop, that’s when I have to step into the writers’ room.”

So, for the people coming at me for being negative about the show—what do you have to say when the creator himself has a problem with how it’s being written now?

Somebody pointed this out to me: “Jeremy, keep doing you. We appreciate what you do. But think of it this way—how many of the people talking bad about you have a YouTube channel as big as yours or a social media presence as strong as yours?”

And they’re right. So, I’m done addressing negativity. Tyler Perry isn’t out here responding to criticism—he’s a billionaire. So I’m moving on.

I’ll keep talking about the show in my way. If you like it, great. If not, don’t watch. Now, let’s get into the actual review!

Episode Review

This was NOT a good episode. I give it a 3 out of 10.

If you watched my live stream, a lot of people said the same thing—some even gave it a 2 or 1. I don’t know if I’d go that far, but there were only a couple of things I liked:

  1. Zach calming down Fatima. Some people describe her as Andy’s “guard dog” (not my words), and I hate to see it. But I loved that moment when Zach told her to back off and let Penelope handle her business.
  2. Hayden confronting Gary—that was a solid moment.

Other than that? A mess.

I’ve said this for weeks: the one-month time skip has done far more damage than people realize.

We’re going into the season finale next week, and we’ve been stuck in this storyline for months. Almost half a year.

  • We still don’t know who stabbed Gary.
  • The babies haven’t been born.
  • Karen’s baby bump is SHRINKING instead of growing.
  • The dialogue is confusing—Penelope suddenly rushes to Robin for help, but Jordan has been locked up for a month? You mean to tell me she never asked Robin before now?

And then they keep throwing in random curveballs:

  • Why is Tony proposing to Danni?!
  • Why is Calvin back?!
  • Why is Rich running back to Sabrina saying, “I still love you, you’re my girl”?!

If I had to describe Season 8 in one phrase, I’d say: It’s a gumbo pot of garbage.

These writers are just throwing everything at us—shock moment after shock moment—with no substance.

And they think we won’t notice!

The only reason I didn’t rate this episode a 1 out of 10 was because of one scene:

Danni tossing that damn bear across the room and breaking a lamp—I was dead. Not only that, but she was just chilling under the bear like it was her cuddle buddy.

It reminded me of my cousin’s kid, who has those stuffed toys called “Squishmallows.” Back in my day, we just called them stuffed animals, but apparently, they have a whole new name now. 😂
