Tyler Perry’s Sistas | Was A One Month Time Jump Really Necessary?
Sistas Season 8, Episode 20: A Time Jump That Makes No Sense?
From Slow Burn to a Sudden Leap
Fans of Sistas have had their fair share of pacing concerns this season, but Episode 20 delivered one of the most baffling storytelling decisions yet: a one-month time jump. If you’ve been following along, you’ll know that Season 8 took a drastically different approach from Season 7. While the previous season allowed time to pass organically—sometimes covering days in a single episode—Season 8 has slowed things down considerably. Between Episodes 1 and 19, we barely covered four days of in-universe time.
Then, out of nowhere, Episode 20 throws us four weeks into the future—a decision that left many fans scratching their heads.
What Happened to the Cliffhangers?
The last time we checked in, Episode 19 left us on multiple dramatic cliffhangers:
- Hayden was pistol-whipped.
- Jordan was strangling Gary in the hospital.
- Andi was still struggling with her role at the firm.
Now, we jump forward a month, and… what exactly happened in between? We don’t see Jordan being arrested—we only know he’s in jail. Hayden still has bruises from a fight that happened a month ago (how does that make sense?). And Andi, after seemingly spending weeks in professional limbo, is suddenly having her first official day as a partner?
Sabrina’s Timeline Confusion
One particularly odd subplot involves Sabrina, who previously stated she wasn’t ready for pregnancy. She was undergoing hormonal treatment in preparation for egg extraction—but with a month passing, her body has apparently stabilized, and she’s now free to do whatever she wants. While that makes sense medically, what doesn’t add up is her relationship drama with Rich. She still seems confused about where they stand, but to Rich, their breakup was final the moment she said, “I choose me.” Why is she still clinging to something that ended a month ago?
Zach’s M.u.r.d.e.r Board: A Month of Nothing?
One of the biggest head-scratchers is Zach’s investigation into the m.u.r.d.e.r. We’re supposed to believe that he has spent an entire month trying to piece things together but only just reached a conclusion? And we don’t even get to see what he figured out? If Zach really believes Jasmine (his ex-wife) is the culprit, then why did it take four weeks for him to connect the dots?
Andi’s Attitude Toward Robin: A Month of Disrespect?
Another strange aspect of the time jump is Andi’s ongoing cold attitude toward Robin. Apparently, she’s been treating the owner of the law firm like dirt for an entire month, and yet, he’s done nothing about it? Some fans even joked that Andi and Fatima have been acting like Robin is a janitor, rather than the boss. How has he tolerated this for so long?
The Danny Situation
Danny’s financial struggles also raise questions. She has been suspended without pay for a month, which is why she couldn’t continue therapy. That actually makes sense, but it also highlights how unnecessary the time jump was. If the writers wanted to add stakes to Danny’s story, why not show her struggling in real time rather than skipping ahead?
Karen’s Business Deadline: A Forgotten Plot?
Before the jump, Marie gave Karen and Pam two weeks to double their sales in order to secure a $150,000 investment bonus. Now, a month has passed, and Karen still doesn’t have the numbers? Did Marie extend the deadline, or did the writers just forget about this plotline?
Zach’s Financial Mystery
In the preview for Episode 21, Zach is considering investing in Roots to Riches—but where is he getting the money from? If he’s been unemployed for a month, how is he suddenly able to make financial moves?
The Gary & Jordan Saga: Too Many Gaps
When Jordan was arrested, we didn’t actually see it happen—we just cut to him being locked up. Meanwhile, Gary, who was nearly k.i.l.l.e.d, is suddenly healed and ready for discharge. Also, what’s the status of the federal investigation against him? Since Hudson lost his power of attorney, are the feds refocusing on Gary’s illegal dealings? And if his memory is still hazy, could that affect his legal situation?
Agent Watt & The Investigation That Vanished
Before the time jump, Agent Watt was pressuring Zach and Fatima, demanding answers within 24 hours. But now, a month has passed, and the threat has completely disappeared? Apparently, the police are now pinning the stabbing on Jordan—but that doesn’t explain why Agent Watt suddenly backed off.
Karen’s Pregnancy: Will She Go Into Labor in the Finale?
Finally, there’s Karen’s pregnancy. Despite a month passing, she still hasn’t given birth, meaning she might go into labor during the finale. Given how she’s been heavily promoting her brand ambassador deal with Pam, it wouldn’t be surprising if things start falling apart right when her business is about to take off.
Final Thoughts: Did This Time Jump Make Sense?
When you take a step back, this one-month time jump feels completely unnecessary. So many key events were skipped, while others remained stagnant, making it seem like the show wanted to move forward while keeping everything exactly the same.
What do you think? Was this time jump a brilliant move or a confusing mess? Let me know your thoughts!
