Tyler Perry’s Sistas | Why Is Calvin Back In Atlanta?

Calvin’s Return to Sistas – What’s the Point?

This week, Calvin is making his return to Sistas, and let’s be honest—we’re all asking the same question: Why is he back?

Reactions have been mixed, but let’s be real—most people are more interested in Calvin’s return because they think it signals Preston’s comeback, too. And as I’ve said time and again, Preston does not need to come back. He served his time, and I actually prefer what they did with his character in Zatima Season 3. Hopefully, he’ll also be in Season 4, because after everything Danny has been through, she deserves better. It’s just like Robin and Andy—he’s too good for her, no matter what people say.

Has Enough Time Passed?

Now, when it comes to Calvin, I’ve seen some good takes. A lot of people are saying, at this point, I just hope he’s over Sabrina. And honestly, they have a point.

Let’s break it down:

  • There was a three-month time skip between Seasons 6 and 7.
  • During that time, Sabrina was in a full-blown relationship with Rich.
  • In Season 7, Episode 1, Maurice told Sabrina that Calvin had left town with a “snow bunny.”
  • Sabrina still got mad that Calvin didn’t say goodbye—even though she had moved on with Rich!

Maurice even called her out like, Girl, why are you acting this way? It had been three months! Did she really expect Calvin to sit around and wait for her while she was dating someone else? Her response? Well, we have history…

Come on now.

Calvin’s Role Has Been Pointless for a While

Back in Season 6, Calvin was just hating on Bio for no reason. Bro, Sabrina didn’t want you! He even asked her—twice—if she wanted to be exclusive, and she said no both times. He told her, I love you, and she never said it back.

So why, in Season 7, was she considering using his sperm for her frozen egg procedure? Calvin was never even her ex!

Truthfully, Calvin has been irrelevant since Season 1. After he moved into Maurice’s apartment in Season 2, he had more screen time with Maurice than Sabrina. His only real contributions to the show were viral moments—

  • The vibrator incident
  • Getting knocked out by Jacobi
  • Screaming like a girl during the twirl

And let’s be real, after those moments, he had no purpose in the show.

Why Bring Him Back Now?

Season 7 covered at least a month and a half of in-show time. So in total, Calvin and Sabrina haven’t been in contact for nearly six months.

So what’s the point of bringing him back now? Some fans think it’s just the writers resetting the show to its “status quo” by getting rid of the new guys (Jordan, Rich, Tony) and bringing back the old ones (Preston, Calvin).

But that doesn’t make sense because the women haven’t changed. They haven’t shown any real growth or development that would make them ready for mature relationships with these men—who, by the way, have been patiently waiting for them.

At some point, these men realized their worth. They stopped being benchwarmers while the women played games with other guys. And now, when they choose better for themselves, the women act like they’re the victims?

Should Preston Return Too?

Let’s not forget—Preston is allegedly still married in Sistas. So bringing him back after a divorce would just feel weird and forced. Just leave him out of it.

As for Calvin, I feel like this is just a way to create more unnecessary drama. Now that Sabrina and Rich are over, they need to throw a curveball so Bio isn’t an automatic rebound for her. Enter Calvin.

I can already see how this will play out—Sabrina will say something like, Oh, I thought you left town with that white girl! And then she’ll act like she has the right to be mad about it.

But let’s be honest—on this show, the women are always written to be right, no matter what.

Final Thoughts

What do you think? Are you excited for Calvin’s return, or do you think this is just pointless drama? Do you expect any other old characters to make a last-minute return before the season ends?
