Tyler Perry’s Sistas | Will There Be A Time Skip Between Seasons 8 & 9?
Sistas Fans, Let’s Talk About Season 9!
Now, we all know that Season 9 is supposed to be the season that gets things back on track. Based on Tyler Perry’s interview during the Six Triple Eight press run a few months ago, he mentioned that he would be visiting the writers’ room to help steer the show in the right direction. He admitted that recent episodes felt completely out of touch with the characters he created—so much so that he couldn’t even watch them.
His goal? To fix the show, get it back on track, and, of course, boost the ratings.
I’ve talked about this multiple times before. While I can see Tyler Perry improving things for the sake of ratings, I’m not entirely sure about the quality. For years, fans have been asking him to bring in additional writers because Sistas has had major issues: poor pacing, weak character development, and repetitive storylines. There’s a lot that needs fixing.
Should There Be a Time Jump in Season 9?
One big question that hasn’t been widely discussed is: Will there be a time jump between the Season 8 finale and the Season 9 premiere?
Looking at how Sistas has handled transitions in the past, it’s possible. Remember how Season 6 ended with Danni being grabbed in the airport parking lot? Then, Season 7 opened with a three-month time jump. That kind of reset could be exactly what the show needs right now.
Think about it—Season 8 is still ongoing, and depending on the finale’s cliffhanger, jumping ahead could solve a lot of problems. Fans are eager to move past Karen’s seemingly never-ending pregnancy. Just let her have the baby already! When Penelope was introduced, she was about to give birth, yet somehow, time in the show has moved at a snail’s pace. The writers clearly weren’t keeping track of past episodes.
If Season 9 starts after a time jump:
- Karen would have already given birth, and we’d finally know the results of the DNA test.
- Fatima would be showing her baby bump (since behind-the-scenes leaks from Zatima Season 4 suggest she will be pregnant).
- Andy might already be running the firm.
- Danni could be working a new job—maybe one she actually enjoys instead of just collecting a paycheck.
- Sabrina might be further along in her journey to freezing her eggs.
The length of the time jump could be a few weeks, a couple of months, or maybe even a year. But something needs to change.
Will Season 9 Feel Like a Total Reboot?
If you’ve ever watched the House of Payne reboot on BET, you might remember how terrible the first season was under Tyler Perry’s writing. The scripts were awful, the laugh track was overused, and the characters felt lifeless. But when new writers took over for Season 2, it was a night and day difference.
Could we see something similar with Sistas Season 9? A complete overhaul of the characters?
For example:
- Gary might be toned down. While Cheeto was the MVP of Season 7 (he clearly had a blast playing an unhinged villain), his character was way over the top. Season 9 could reset him.
- Zac and Fatima need a fresh start. In the latest sneak peek, Zac is back to acting like a reckless hothead, wanting to fight first and ask questions never. That’s not who he used to be. The new writers must fix this.
- Danni might have a wrongful termination case against the airline, but since she also assaulted a coworker, it’s a gray area. If she’s at a new job in Season 9, hopefully, it’s one that aligns with her passion.
- Sabrina might not be ready for motherhood yet, but she does want to freeze her eggs. Maybe Season 9 will explore that further.
One thing’s for sure—this show already has way too many pregnancies. Karen, Penelope, Fatima… let’s slow down with the baby storylines!
Can Season 9 Save Sistas?
If Sistas can’t get back on track, maybe it’s time to wrap things up. Fans have been patient, but there’s only so much they can take.
So, what do you think? Should there be a time jump in Season 9? If so, how long should it be? And what changes do you hope to see when the show returns?
