Walford consumed with grief after Martin’s d.e.a.t.h in EastEnders
The residents of Walford attempt to process traumatic events from the week in upcoming episodes, including Martin Fowler’s (James Bye) d.e.a.t.h.
Following the Queen Vic explosion, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) went into labour. She was trapped in the pub alongside Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) and then eventually sister Bianca (Patsy Palmer), and was terrified to give birth to her baby in the middle of the wreckage.
Matters were made worse when Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) found Sonia and tried to support her through the labour. He was confronted by Bianca, and then d.i.e.d as a result of a bath falling through the floorboards and landing onto him.
Sonia eventually gave birth, and named her daughter Julia.
Elsewhere in the pub, Martin was trapped under a beam. He had just confessed his love to Stacey (Lacey Turner) and then saw it falling from the ceiling.
He shoved Stacey out of the way, but the beam fell onto his legs seconds after.
As Stacey waited for the frame to get removed, she sat and spoke to Martin about their life. They eventually agreed to reunite and get married, concluding they’re meant to be together.
In a classic soap twist, just as Stacey and Martin smiled about their future, it was ripped away from them. As the beam was removed, Martin suffered Crush Syndrome, which occurred as a result of the toxins flooding his body.
It led to Martin’s d.e.a.t.h, and a harrowing scream from Stacey that was enough to allow the characters outside to realise what had happened.
Next Monday, the aftermath of this ordeal will begin. Residents try and process the events, but understandably struggle with the enormity of what’s happened.
As the hours tick by though, the community realise they have no choice but to adjust to a new normal.
The week ends with the residents congregating at Harry’s Barn, but the sombre occasion is the catalyst for more drama amongst the grief-stricken locals.
It’s safe to say things won’t ever be the same again.
