What we know about Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise series 15
The BBC crime drama stars Don Gilet as new lead detective Mervin Wilson, and the actor has revealed the future of the show beyond series 14.
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise’s fourteenth season is almost at an end, which means that viewers will be waiting with baited breath to know when they can expect more from the BBC crime drama.
The good news is that the BBC, and indeed lead actor Don Gilet, have revealed the future of the show beyond its current series, so viewers don’t need to wait for long.
Gilet recently joined the cast as DS Mervin Wilson, who is roped into working with the police in Saint Marie while visiting the island to investigate his mother’s Dᴇᴀᴛʜ — which he doesn’t feel is accidental.
Here is what you need to know about the show’s future.
Has Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise been renewed for series 15?
Yes, Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise will return for a 15th series according to Gilet, as the actor confirmed that the show will return to filming in April during an appearance on Lorraine.
When asked about when they’d return to film the series, Gilet said: “Unfortunately it is about April time, end of April.” When his use of the word “unfortunately” was called out, he then added that he “just meant for the people I am going to leave”.
The BBC has not yet officially confirmed that it has commissioned series 15, however given Gilet’s comments it is safe to say that the show will return.
What will Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise series 15 be about?
Speaking to Yahoo UK, actor Shaquille Ali-Yebuah shared what he hopes to see in a new series around his character, newbie to the force Sebastian Rose. The actor shared how he had hopes that viewers will see more of a personal side to his character in future episodes.
He explained: “I guess going into the next season, if and when the Seb Rose Experience continues, we’ll get to see a different side of him more on the personal level to know who he is and his upbringing, where he’s from and who this character really is, so the audience can definitely understand him a bit more.
“Understand why he may have a fidgety brain or why he has this approach, or why he is who he is. I feel like it’s good this season to just see the layer of him and who he is, and warm to him. And next season maybe dive deeper and see, see who Mr. Sebastian Rose really is and how he became Sebastian Rose.”
Elsewhere the series will likely continue to further develop the main plot from Gilet’s first series as lead detective, the character has been in Saint Marie trying to find answers about his birth mother only to learn that she died in a boating accident. Further investigation revealed to him that she actually appeared to have been murdered, and so he is ready to find out exactly what happened to her.
This might be revealed by the end of series 14, but there are likely to be repercussions to Mervin’s discovery that will have a ripple effect on the next season.
Meanwhile, there is likely to also be a continued narrative around Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) and his future on the island, as the character has been forced to come to terms with being ousted from his job. The people of Saint Marie haven’t let it slide and have been fighting to help him keep his position, and this storyline will likely resonate into series 15.
When will Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise series 15 be released?
The BBC has not yet confirmed its plan for series 15 so it’s not clear when the show will return, however if filming takes place in April like Gilet says then it’s likely the show will continue its current release schedule — meaning there will be a Christmas special this year and then series 15 will premiere in 2026.
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise series 14 ends on Friday, 28 March at 9pm on BBC One, episodes will be available on BBC iPlayer.
