Whitney’s REVENGE Begins! Jack’s DARK Secret Exposed After Avani’s Strip Search Horror
EastEnders Star Shona McGarty Back in the Studio — And She’s Not Alone
Beloved EastEnders actress Shona McGarty is making waves once again — but this time, it’s not on the streets of Albert Square. The 33-year-old star, best known for her powerful portrayal of Whitney Dean from 2008 until her emotional departure in 2024, has returned to her musical roots and is now recording new tracks in the studio.
Whitney’s storylines captivated viewers for over a decade. From the harrowing trauma of being sexually abused by her stepfather Tony to a terrifying stalking ordeal, a murder trial, and the heartbreaking loss of her baby, Peach — McGarty brought intense realism and emotion to each twist and turn. Her final scenes saw Whitney walking away from Walford after learning of fiancé Zack Hudson’s betrayal with her best friend Lauren. Adding salt to the wound, Whitney discovered that her beloved Bianca Jackson had known about the affair and kept it a secret, forcing her to cut ties and leave the Square behind.
Now, away from the drama of EastEnders, Shona is reconnecting with another passion: music. Known for her soulful voice, she has previously released songs in support of charities such as Great Ormond Street Hospital and Mind. She has even performed in character as Whitney, showcasing her vocals in memorable EastEnders episodes.
This week, Shona took to Instagram to share some exciting news with her 273,000 followers. Posting a photo and video of herself singing into a microphone, headphones on, and fully immersed in the moment, she revealed: “The two most special days in the studio with Amma and Steve Anderson, laying down a couple of tracks. It felt so good getting back behind the mic and dusting off the old vocals again. Excited to share with you what we created — all in due time.”
Fans of pop music may recognize Steve Anderson, the acclaimed producer and musical director who has worked with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Westlife, and Steps. With such a powerhouse team behind her, it’s no surprise that fans and friends alike are buzzing. Shona’s former co-star Diane Parish (Denise Fox) commented, “Can’t wait to hear!” while actor Harry Reid (Ben Mitchell) called her “The Soul Angel” in an enthusiastic reply.
And if that wasn’t enough, Shona recently stepped back into her Whitney heels for a one-night-only live event — the uproariously fun EastBenders cabaret show. Held on March 27th at the iconic Clapham Grand, the evening promised to be a “chaotic, camp, and utterly unhinged drag cabaret tribute” to 40 years of EastEnders madness.
The venue was transformed into the Queen Vic for the night, with legendary soap characters like Pat Butcher, Sharon Watts, Vanessa Gold, and even the Queen Vic bust brought to life by some of the UK’s top drag performers. The audience was told to prepare for “high drama, big earrings, and Duffy moments galore” — and Shona didn’t disappoint, joining in for a surprise live performance that left the crowd roaring.
From heart-wrenching soap scenes to soulful studio sessions and drag royalty nights, Shona McGarty proves she’s a multi-talented force to be reckoned with. Fans will no doubt be eagerly awaiting her new music — and whatever else this East End icon has in store.
