Who should EastEnders’ Denise pick during the 40th anniversary live episode? Vote now
This year marks 40 years of EastEnders on our screens, and the cast and crew have promised something even more ambitious than a live episode - a live vote. This is where viewers get to choose who Denise Fox should choose as the winner in the battle for her heart. We want to know - who should Denise pick during the EastEnders live vote?
It’s been a long time coming, but this Wednesday February 19th marks 40 years since EastEnders first appeared on our TV screens.
Beloved by fans and popular with even casual viewers alike, EastEnders has boasted some of the biggest viewing figures for British TV ever.
The EastEnders Christmas special in 1986, where the notorious Dirty Den (Leslie Grantham) served long-suffering wife Angie (Anita Dobson) with divorce papers, was watched by 30.1 million people. The Christmas 2023 special, which featured the backstory of the much-lauded The Six storyline, beat even this record and was viewed by 32 million people live on the BBC and via streaming combined.

EastEnders events draw a big crowd, and the 40th anniversary special is sure to be something special. Spoilers for the occasion include an explosion at The Queen Vic, a potentially Earth-shattering on-screen d.e.a.t.h, and the culmination of the months-long storyline between Sonia Fowler, her murderous boyfriend Reiss Colwell, and Bianca Jackson dealing with having been imprisoned by Reiss in his lock-up since last year.
Added to all of that, we’ve been teased with more details (and potentially answers to) as to who attacked Cindy Beale on Christmas Day 2024, as well as the second wedding of long-running characters Billy and Honey Mitchell.
But perhaps most intriguing of all is the live vote that EastEnders producers have promised to happen during the 40th anniversary live episode. The vote will open at 8:30pm on Wednesday, February 19th and will close at 7:10pm on Thursday, February 20th.
The vote asks the question of who Denise Fox, played by Diane Parish, should choose to be with – her ex-husband Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) or new flame Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara).

The choice won’t be an easy one, and fans have been divided by the choice. Should Denise go back to her ex, who has supported her through her breakdown over her involvement over the d.e.a.t.h of Keanu Taylor, or should she choose the younger Ravi, who excites her and wants her for who she is?
Of course, Jack and Ravi both have their downsides: Jack, Albert Square’s corrupt detective, cheated on Denise with Stacey Slater, who is the grandmother of his grandchild. As for Ravi, he’s a known d.r.u.g dealer who murdered the man he thought was his father and also previously dated Denise’s daughter, Chelsea Fox.
