Why did Commissioner Selwyn Patterson leave Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise?
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise viewers bid farewell to one of the shows most beloved characters on Friday night as the BBC show came to an end.
It looks as though this might be the end of one Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise star’s journey on the beloved BBC show. On Friday night, viewers tuned in as the latest series came to an end.
As the programme kicked off, fans saw newcomer DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) prepare to depart from the island of Saint Marie and return back to London. However, when a body was found in the place he was staying, the DI was called back.
Deciding to stay after he was cleared as being a suspect, DI Wilson and the team worked together to solve the murder. As the show continued, the question still remained on whether or not he’d stay on the island.
However, in a turn of events, another beloved character made their decision to leave right as the show came to an end. While the team headed to the bar to celebrate, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) pulled up in a taxi.
As Catherine Bordey (Élizabeth Bourgine) told him to pull up a seat as she’d get him a drink, he revealed his plans to leave. Despite being offered his old job back in the previous episode, it seemed as though he had a change of heart.
Asking why he turned it down after fighting too hard, he said: “I don’t know, but it felt wrong to say yes, too much has happened and right now, I can’t see a way to get back to how things were.”
Catherine questioned how long he’d be gone for after planning to go and see his daughter Andrina (Genesis Lynea). Although his response was coy as he said: “Who knows.”
Bidding his friend farewell, Selwyn said: “Promise me, you will look after yourself and them (the team).” Agreeing she would do as he asked, Catherine had her own demands.
She said: “Of course, promise me this isn’t farewell but au revoir.” However, there was one more stop he had to make before leaving as he headed off to go and see DI Mervin, to try and persuade him to stay in Saint Marie by revealing he had a brother.
